Wheel washers

We offer wheel and chassis wash systems which can be used at landfills, construction sites and in quarries, mines and other industrial facilities.

GEOWELL wheel and chassis wash systems are automatic, compact and can be used at various sites. Our product range includes a number of wheel and chassis wash systems to match different applications. We offer a turnkey service: from the engineering design for the wash system, through obtaining the required permits, laying foundations to delivery and installation of the wheel and chassis wash system.

;

Wheel and chassis washing is achieved by spraying water under high pressure (2-2.5 kg/cm²) from sprinklers located in the floor and at the sides of the wash system. Streams of water are directed towards the approaching vehicle, which extends the vehicle washing tine without a extending the structure of the washer.  After the vehicle comes into the operating range of photo sensors, water sprinklers are activated.

The water level is adjusted automatically by the control valve, which is connected with a water tank. The vehicle passes through the wash system at the speed of approx. 5 km/h, and as soon as it leaves the facility, the water flow is cut off. The vehicle should leave the wash system slowly. A standard feature of the equipment is automatic drainage of water from the entire piping system by switching the compressor over to air pumping, which prevents freezing of water remaining in the delivery pipes and nozzles. Optionally, a heater can be installed, so that the wash system can be used in lower temperatures.

When the wash system is in operation, a special chemical is used to reduce turbidity of water and to obtain better results by protecting the wash system from contamination with a large amount of foreign material.  The amount of the chemical additive depends on the volume of contamination (solid matter) and the number of vehicles washed. When water is mixed with the additive, the process is faster. The volume of water used depends on correct installation of the water delivery system around the washer (appropriate gradient will ensure returning water to the tank), the selected washing program, the number and drive-through speed of vehicles washed and the atmospheric conditions.

The approach and exit from the wash system is made of concrete (5,000 x 3,250 mm concrete slabs) inclined towards the washer, which reduces water consumption. Sludge from the washer is removed automatically with a scraper provided with a 0.55 kW electric motor. The scraper is also equipped with an additional metal guard which eliminates splashes of the removed sludge. Correct installation of the piping system and the foundation will ensure not only trouble free operation of the equipment, but also reduces the cost of operation, improving its operational efficiency.

If the wheels and the chassis are extremely contaminated (for example with clay), roller washers are used. The principle of operation is similar to the pass-through wash system, but the vehicle stops on rollers. Pressurized water washes the wheels which are turned round by the roller system. This solution allows complete removal of mud from vehicle wheels.

Installing the equipment on a foundation does not exclude its subsequent use in a different place; it can be dismantled and installed many times, also on a foundation.

The basic unit in our product range is the DK WASH GRATING 220 wash system. It is a sunk pass-through wash system, which enables washing of vehicles up to 2.8 m wide and optionally up to 3.5 m wide.  The wash system is seated on a foundation, but it can also be used as a mobile system.

The DK WASH GRATING 220 is adequate for most applications with the exception of extreme soiling, for example with clay. DK G03EX, a washer seated directly on the ground, is a similar solution. Its principle of operation is identical with DK WASH GRATING 220, and the wash system is for light contamination (sand, dust) and a lower number of vehicles per day (approx. 150). The GEOWELL 2-ROLL 110 and GEOWELL 4-ROLL 220 roller wash systems are yet another solution. These are recessed washers, which are also used for heavy soiling. They enable simultaneous washing of one (2-ROLL) or two (4-ROLL) vehicle axles, which affects throughput (100 and 250 vehicles respectively).

Advantages of the DK WASH GRATING wheel and chassis wash system:

  • unattended operation;

  • ability to wash vehicles wider than the standard (optionally up to 3.50 m);

  • the washer system takes very little space in the road (2.2 m), which allows for better positioning in the factory or on a construction site (therefore it can fit on a shorter road section);

  • water circulation in a closed cycle, the water tank capacity is approx. 6 m³;

  • water blowdown after a completed washing cycle which prevents freezing of sprinklers;

  • anti-corrosion protection of the washer structure;

  • optionally, heaters can be used to warm up water in the tank, so that the washer can be used in temperatures below 0ºC;

  • delivery and installation in one piece, which reduces installation time and eliminates inaccuracies associated with assembling the equipment on site.
